Man Arrested For Allegedly Lighting His Father On Fire

DECATUR, IL- One man is in jail and his father is in the hospital after an argument Thursday night took a dangerous turn.

According to sworn statements, Phillip Green and his father Milo Oldham got into an argument Thursday night at Green's house in the 1000 block of West Howard. Witnesses say the argument eventually moved outside. Once outside, Green allegedly threw gasoline from a gas can on his father and lit him on fire.

Witnesses say Green then fled the scene.

Oldham sustained 2nd and 3rd degree burns to approximately 30% of his body, including his face, arms and left side. Oldham was treated at St. Mary's Hospital before being airlifted to Springfield Memorial Hospital's burn unit.

Police arrested Green after he returned to the scene just after 7:30 p.m. He has been charged with heinous battery and his bail is set at $250,000.

Decatur, IL- Neighbors say a father-son fight Thursday evening, ended in flames.
"His son told him to leave, so he turned to leave, and he still threw the gasoline on him," Evelyn Sanders said, who lives down the street .
Neighbors say they watched in horror as 28-year-old Phillip Green chased after his father, doused him in gasoline and lit him on fire.

His father, 53-year-old Milo Oldham, was airlifted to Springfield Memorial Hospital with 2nd and 3rd degree burns.  The hospital says he's in fair condition.

Neighbors say four small children witnessed the fight.
"Now the kids across the streets are having nightmares," Sanders said.
