DECATUR, IL- A routine traffic stop in Decatur ends with two men being arrested and police getting over a pound of cocaine off the street.
According to sworn statements, a Macon County Sheriff's Deputy initiated a traffic stop of Chevy Malibu near the intersection of Route 48 and Rock Springs Road just after 11:30 p.m. Monday night. The two men inside the car told police they were traveling back to Decatur after attending a funeral in Tennessee.
A Decatur K-9 unit was called to the scene to conduct a free air sniff of the outside of the car. The K-9 partner gave a positive indication of the presence of drugs inside the car.
Police searched the vehicle and allegedly found 760 grams of cocaine concealed inside the trunk.
The driver of the car, 29 year-old Shawn Barbee, and the passenger, 31 year-old Byron Theus, were both taken into custody. Neither men gave police a statement.
Barbee and Theus have been charged with trafficking of a controlled substance, manufacturing/delivery of cocaine between 400-900 grams and possession of cocaine between 400-900 grams. Barbee's bond is set at $250,000. Theus' bond is set at $500,000.
Theus has multiple felony drug convictions in Macon County and is currently on parole
