House Fire On Wood and 20th St. Decatur, IL

Decatur, IL  -  A fire call came out for reports of flames coming from a house on 20th and Wood Street in around 1:00am. Firefighters had control of the fire quick. Wind was really bad in the morning so it was nice to see the firefighters getting the fire out quick before anything got out of control. 

As of right now it looks like know one was hurt because of the fire and it's also unknown at this time on how the fire stared.

Child Dies After Being Struck By Car-

Decatur, IL - Sunday November 13, 2011

Near the intersection of Oakland and Grand St in Decatur, IL on Sunday A 9 year old boy chasing A ball into the street was struck by a car driving west bound on Grand St.

Malachi was taken to Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana where he died at 9:27 a.m. Monday, of traumatic head injuries.

Crime Of The Week 11-09-11

The Decatur Police Department needs your help in solving this week’s crime of the week.

 On November 4th at 5:00 am officers responded to Zips Flowers by the Gates, located at 518 E Prairie in reference to a building check.  Upon arrival officers observed the front glass door to the business was shattered.

   
Some time overnight suspects entered and ransacked the business.  The suspects removed currency and computer equipment from the business.

  
At this time no suspect information has been provided.  The Decatur Police Department needs your help in solving this crime.

Crime in Decatur, IL

 As we move closer to the end of 2011 I would like to talk about the crime that had taken place over the past year. Lot's of people say crime is out of control and the police need to do something to make this stop. Well here is a few things I would like to talk about and then share something with all of you..


Cops need to setup and stop the crime.  Cops don't put guns into the criminals hands. Stop and think, would you like to be a police officer in Decatur, IL?  You say crime is so bad do you stop and think about what the cops have to go through? Yes some cops are better then others but that's like any city you go to. 

Murders happen in-lots of bigger city's, Decatur is around 79,000 to 82,000 people so a-little smaller then Springfield but look at the murder rates in those other city's - Decatur has murders yes, Decatur also solves it's murders really fast. Only one murder is not solved from this summer, which in case a teen was shot after going home from the Decatur Cel. - More then 100,000 people come to the event each day so it maybe a-little harder to find out who may have done this, but Decatur will not back down they will keep going strong.


Decatur has had a bad name for more then 100 years, nothing has changed since this little dark city has started in the 1820's. Why say it's getting worse. Below is a little story from my good friend and author Troy Taylor. Here is a-little on the start of Decatur, IL..

In 1854, Colonel Dan Conklin started a whiskey distillery, racetrack and a whorehouse on the outskirts of Decatur and the city earned the first of its unflattering nicknames -- "Hell's Half Acre". It would go on to earn others, including the "Second Most Corrupt City in Illinois" in the 1920s, and would gain infamy as a place where murder, bootlegging, prostitution, kidnapping, gambling, corruption in city government and, of course, ghosts were commonplace. But Decatur's dark origins can be traced back to the earliest days of the city, when the original settlers built over the top of Native American burial grounds that were scattered throughout the downtown area of what would become Decatur. The destruction of these burial mounds cast a mysterious pall over the city -- a darkness that continues to linger today.

Most Wanted of Macon County and Decatur, Illinois

Crime of the Week in Macon County and Decatur, Illinois 10-12-11

The Decatur Police Department needs your help in solving this week’s crime of the week.

 On October 12th at 4:00 am officers responded to Jimmy Johns, located at 100 E Prairie in reference to a burglary.  Upon arrival officers observed the glass on the front door was shattered and the front door to the business was open.

 
Suspects entered the business through the front door and removed US currency from the cash drawer and a safe.

Crime of the Week in Macon County and Decatur, Illinois 9-14-2011

The Decatur Police Department needs your help in solving this week’s crime of the week.

On September 9th officers were detailed to the Dollar General Store, located at 3797 East Rt. 36 in reference to a robbery. Upon arrival officers spoke with store employees who advised at approx. 8:30pm an unknown male subject entered the business. He walked to the checkout counter area, picked up a candy bar and then handed the cashier money to pay for the candy bar. When the store employee opened the register to get the suspect his change, he quickly lunged over the counter and tried to remove the cash drawer. The store employee tried to stop the suspect but was unsuccessful. The suspect fled the business in an unknown direction with the cash drawer. We need your help in solving this crime.

The suspect was described as a b/m in his late 20’s to early 30’s. He was approx. 5ft 3inches tall and weighed 115 pounds. He was wearing a red sweatshirt, dark colored pants and a red & blue baseball hat.
